小升初的证书基本上可以分为三种类型：a.重点中学报名资格型。

包括：三好（市、区、校）、大队长、中队委、雏鹰奖章、红领巾奖章、见义勇为好少年、十佳好少年（市、区）等等。b.重点中学敲门砖型。包括：公共英语（一、二、三级…越高越好）、剑桥英语（大约12盾以上吧）、希望杯获奖、华杯赛等（…越多越好）。c.重点中学剑走偏锋型。包括：市合唱比赛、航模、建模、计算机、舞蹈、绘画、钢琴、管弦、围棋、田径……（这部分孩子一般以科技特长、文艺特长、体育特长被重点中学录取）

实际上，希望之星英语风采大赛的含金量并不高。因为该比赛是电视播出的比赛，是一个盈利性质的比赛，所以其公平性就很难保证，省级的比赛已经有不公平，到全国总决赛，不公平现象更为突出。全国总决赛是暑假里电视播出的，大赛组委会肯定要追求收视率。所以，全国总决赛就不是单纯的英语比赛了，应该是比赛形式的英语娱乐秀，从某种意义上说，是为了追求收视率而选择晋级选手，因此，选手是否晋级已不完全由该选手的表现如何，而在很大程度上取决于选手的长相等非比赛因素。获得前几名的选手，未必是真正实力强的；在20进10就被淘汰的选手，也未必比晋级的选手差。希望之星英语风采大赛的性质决定了该比赛含金量不可能高，即使获得全国总冠军，也不会在参加高中或大学的自主招生考试时起作用。
